Tuesday Tea: Randomly sharing

Happy Tuesday! Here are some of my favorite links that I’ve run across recently.

One thing that I’ve been hankering to try my hand at is dyeing my own yarn. I’ve been eyeing this KnitPicks kit as maybe a good beginner introduction. Anyone tried that one out & know if it’s any good? Eventually when we have a garden in the backyard (definitely not this summer — too busy. Hopefully next summer…) I want to grow stuff for natural dyeing. Any recommendations on resources about natural dyeing & what to grow?

I am really good at finding aspirational knitting patterns (seeing as I only vaguely “know” how to knit, and have completed half a washcloth.) These cowls are beautiful, and I hope someday I’ll actually be able to make them!

I haven’t found a good place for my sewing machine to live at the house, but I need to, so I can make some of these baskets!

I’ve had a hankering for some good chocolate chip cookies lately, and M is definitely on board. This recipe looks pretty easy to just swap out replacer for the eggs. Plus, chunks of chocolate? Sign me up.

Things that scream summer to me have been popping up all over the place on my blog reader. #1? Grilling. M and I are waiting until after the wedding to break into all of our presents, so when we set up the grill, I definitely want to make these kabobs.

#2? All the salads. I love gyros, so this chicken gyro salad sounds delicious. I don’t know if I can wait for the grill to make this one!

#3? One word: RIBS. These crock-pot ribs are definitely happening sometime soon.

Life lately: Hello, Stranger…

…is what I imagine y’all would say to me.

Well, what can I say. Everything is always about time. And my time lately has been taken up by

The wedding

Planning, researching, talking to vendors, negotiating meetings, traveling to SC. It’s all a lot of work! I had high hopes in the beginning of blogging about all of this, and the DIYs I was going to do… with 1 and a half months left, I can safely say that’s not going to happen. And the only DIY I’ve managed are the flowers. I convinced myself in the beginning that it wouldn’t be that bad! It would go quickly! Um, no. An individual flower might not take that long, but the sheer volume of them… I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I’ve reached the burnout point. These flowers are the only thing I’ve been crocheting for the past few months and I am So. Sick. Of them. Thank goodness for my girlfriends who are coming over this weekend to help assemble the flowers to their stems, and the stems into bouquets.

Owning a house

I love LOVE the house so much! It’s been wonderful discovering our neighborhood and meeting our neighbors. I’m especially enjoying the yard and seeing how it changes with the seasons. The azaleas by the front porch were especially beautiful, and I’m looking forward to seeing our magnolia tree bloom soon. But there’s always something that needs doing. There’s suddenly so many more rooms to clean! And projects, always projects. Again, I had grand hopes of blogging those too, but… again, it didn’t happen. I think I have pictures of some things in various stages on my camera, but they haven’t yet made it to the computer, because I only re-hooked up the computer a few weeks ago. My fiance M and I front-loaded a bunch of painting (the living room, kitchen, dining area & hallway, as well as the master bedroom) before I even moved any furniture in. And since then, M has scraped popcorn ceilings, refinished hardwood floors, and we’ve painted and installed crown molding in the room we’re using as an office.

Then there’s always work, and the week vacation that we just returned from, and somehow finding time to spend with our friends, and with each other.

So, time. We’re in a fight 🙂

But I enjoy this little blog, and sharing things with y’all. So I’m trying out one of Google Calendar’s new-ish features that schedules time around all your other commitments for those things that you’d like to do more of, but never seem to find the time. (Sounds pretty familiar.) Blogging is now on the calendar!

Looking forward to chatting with y’all again soon! Happy Friday!

Yarn Along

Yarn Along Feb 24th

I’m joining Ginny again this week & sharing what I’ve been crocheting and reading.

I was able to make it to my church knit & crochet group this week, so I snuck in a little preemie hat to donate. Otherwise, though, my attention’s been focused on crocheting and assembling wedding flowers. I’ve got the checklist to end all checklists to keep track of what’s done and what’s left.

Over the weekend, I started reading one of the books that I got from M for Christmas. It’s all about introverts and how to handle being one when it’s extroversion that’s really valued. I assume she’ll get into more into introversion; currently she’s still going through the history of how the U.S. got to be this way. It’s really fascinating (it also ties in with our cultural fascination with movie stars), but it also just makes me really frustrated! I think we were better off when there was more of a focus on character rather than personality.

Yarn Along

Hi again.

Has it really been since August? Life just keeps on keepin’ on. Thanksgiving and Christmas have come and gone. I’ve finished some projects (I really want to show those off, too!) and I’ve started some new ones. I bought a house! So, certainly not quiet.

Wedding planning has been in full swing for a while, and lately all my crochet has been centered around that. I’ve got a completely batty plan to make all the wedding party flowers — you can see a couple examples of the boutonnieres. And I’ve got the cake toppers finished (that’s Leia & Han), I only need to figure out some sort of stand to attach them to, so they don’t get all full of cake!

I really missed reading, and so I’ve made a goal this year to read at least 10 minutes a day. Some days I get it, some days I don’t. But moving to my new house has increased my daily commute a good bit, and so I’ve discovered podcasts and audiobooks. It seems a bit worrisome to me to count audiobooks as reading… but at least I am consuming books, right? The latest one I’ve finished is The Girl on the Train.

It feels good to be back. Today I’m joining Ginny for her weekly Yarn Along. I probably won’t be posting as much as I was before; it was starting to feel like work, and I want what I choose to share to be meaningful. But i’ll be posting again.

Tuesday Tea… Feeling in a Rut

I don’t know if I actually have any regular readers, but to those of you who may exist: I’m sorry for the last 2 weeks of radio silence. I took a week of semi-forced break due to my work trip, and when I came back, I found that I didn’t have anything I wanted to post. I’m in a bit of a comfort listening cycle music-wise, and really enjoying listening to the same 5 albums over and over (Drew Holcomb, Gregory Alan Isakov, Matt Maher, and Chris Tomlin, with some Mumford thrown in for variety). I’ve also been saying the rosary in the mornings on the way to work, instead of the iPod. Combined, those don’t make for very interesting good morning music posts. So I stopped.

In my crochet world, I’m still plugging away, one row at a time, on my secret project. It’s taking all of my focus in what seems to be such a little part of my time lately, my crochet time. And there’s only so many ways I can post a nondescript view of the same colors and same stitches without giving away the whole project. So I stopped posting my WIP.

All that to say… I think I’m taking a break for awhile. I’ll be back.

GMM: Chris Tomlin — Give Us Clean Hands

Well, I can’t remember what I was doing on the Thursday and Friday before, but last week was my work trip to Austin. Every time I travel for work, it makes me glad I don’t have to do it very often. It takes a lot out of me. I’m glad to be home and I think i’m all caught up 🙂

Happy Tuesday!

WIP Wednesday & Yarn Along

Secret project status: I am Finished with the brown yarn! And with only 1 full ball + a little extra leftover. I did, however, just panic-order more grey and blue yarn because there’s no way that I’ll have enough of that. Hopefully the dye lots aren’t wildly different. I’ve planned out a new schedule for myself to see if I can get this project done by October. I have a business trip coming up so I’m hoping the flight time and the evenings in the hotel (with nothing else to do) will give me plenty of crochet time.

This week has been so busy, I couldn’t even tell you if I’ve picked up a book at all.

I hope you’ll join me on Ginny’s blog & share what you’re working on and reading!
