If you remember, last week I told you about my adventures with this bib pattern. Well, the frustration is still real. As you can see, I went through with my plan to start over with a new color to see what I did wrong. What i’ve come to think is that I didn’t do anything wrong — there’s something fishy with the pattern.
The problem came about when I got to the end of row 5. The pattern then tells you to do rows 4 & 5 twice more, after which you will have a stitch count of 27 sc. However… you get to that stitch count after only 1 repeat. So here’s where I started making some choices. I decided I would stick with the stitch count and forego the 2nd round of rows 4-5 repeat.
But the trouble didn’t end there. After “row 10” (really row 8 for me), I hadn’t gotten back down to 16 sc, and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to. So my next decision was to just go with the stitch count that I ended up with (20 sc), adjust the next row’s expected stitch count accordingly, and go with that. I’ve been repeating rows 11 and 12 with my updated stitch counts of 20 and 21 sc (respectively), and it looks ok. You can kind of tell from my picture how it slightly balloons out, but i’m hoping that won’t be too noticeable once I crochet around the edge.
I haven’t decided what I want to do with the pink bib yet, if I want to continue following the pattern & screw the stitch counts, or do something else. Has anyone else successfully made one of these exactly according to the pattern? I don’t think it’s possible!
What have you been crocheting lately?
