FO Friday! Shell Cowl

FO: Shell Cowl

Yay I have lots of finished Christmas presents I can finally report back about! I’ll start with a cowl I made for a friend of mine as part of a Secret Santa gift exchange.

This was my first time using Noro yarn (I have to go look at what kind this was exactly) BUT Y’ALL THE COLORS. I am in love. Plus it just feels so soft! Love love love.

As if that’s not apparent from the photo overload. BONUS: I kind of get to show off the new-to-me chair that I just inherited from my aunt with the gorgeous detail carved into the back. AND. The pics are all Christmassy! (That’s my 4’ fake tree in the background.)

Yup, it’s me. You can see how the cowl scrunches up just enough to keep your  neck warm, and possibly your chin if you stretch it out some, but won’t be bulky underneath your coat.

Now. Just move along.

Because the shell pattern is just repeats, it’s really easy to memorize & just go to town on the rows. It works up super quick! The buttonhole end threw me at first, but it’s really ingenious — you work up-and-down short rows of slipstitch at right angles to the rest of the piece, and it comes out looking knit. Really clever.

But you know what the best part is? In the spur of the moment at the lovely little yarn store I discovered in Seagrove, I wasn’t sure how much yarn I would need. So I got two balls. And now I have one and a bit balls left. I am totally making something for myself with that! Maybe another cowl, or maybe an earwarmer…
